Montjuic and Berlin's Tiergarten

Elevations are always a big plus for a city: It allows for beautiful views over the city, adds to the skyline and provides a landmark and thereby orientation. Apart from these things Montjuic made the very first settlements possible by providing the building stone for houses and defensive walls. Nowadays Montjuic does not only offer a beautiful landscape for leisure activities but also a wide variety of sport facilities and many cultural institutions like the Miró Foundation or the very close Mies van der Rohe Pavilion. To me Montjuic seems like a perfect metropolitan park, the only thing I would improve is the accessibility as the topography makes it hard to reach all the spots. Berlin is flat as a pancake. Therefore the only comparable site is the Tiergarten, Berlin's biggest park. It is located in the centre of the city, covers an area of 210 hectare and hosts some cultural institutions like the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The park is very popular for jogging, riding bikes or playing football as well as for simple strolling or having a barbecue. It has not nearly as much to offer as Montjuic but the people seem to embrace it more. The most reasonable explanation is the central location and easy access.
